Hull founded Sewell Group is famous for being a Sunday Times 'Best Company to Work For' business that has invested in and developed over £500m of new and improved public sector properties within its home city over the past decade.
The firm's facilities management arm operates many of these buildings, as well as looking after school estates across the region.
The diverse Group of companies, which employs over 450 people, is also active in the retail market. Under the 'Sewell on the go' brand the Group operates 12 fuel and convenience stores stretching across the East Yorkshire region.
Most recently, Sewell Group's construction and project management expertise are being sought after in West Yorkshire.
The firm has recently transformed a Grade II listed Print Hall into a stunning library and learning space on behalf of Leeds City College in the emerging South Bank of Leeds; the project has been shortlisted for numerous conversation awards (RICS and CIOB).
Sewell is also working with the University of Leeds, refurbishing a four storey geography block into a new School of Fine Arts, and are supporting Huddersfield based Greenhead College with an extension building.
The business is due to open a permanent West Yorkshire base in the summer but remains committed to its home city of Hull.
Sewell is also supporting Hull City Council with its infrastructures improvements as part of the UK City of Culture 2017 with the £15.9m redevelopment of Hull New Theatre.
As a founding member of Hull CIC For Entrepreneurs Only an and entrepreneur himself, Managing Director Paul Sewell explained why he believes Sewell has bagged the best category at this year's Excellence in Business Awards:
"Business begins with entrepreneurs. They are the warriors and rock stars' of the business world, who need recognising, appreciating and encouraging, big style.
"These days, it's drilled into too many people that they should plan over plan first if they are to succeed. They set about doing these big strategies and plans and everything, but that's not the way to complete in business.
"At Sewell we believe in the entrepreneurial approach of being agile, light on our feet and quick to respond to our customers' changing needs.
"Even the mature , corporate organisations are realising they must discover this type of approach and nurture staff with an entrepreneurial spirit if they are to complete.
"Entrepreneurs are driven by achievement and not put off by failure, they have a 'can do' attitude and are determined to stay one step ahead.
"That's why for me, this is a premier award.
"I'm hoping to see some innovation and creativity in this category.
"The best and brightest across the region who have spotted limitations and acted quickly to create an opportunity."

For over 150 years, we have supported businesses across Yorkshire, and for the last 10 of those we've been proud sponsor of the Yorkshire Post Excellence in Business Awards.
Each year we are impressed by not just the quality of the winners in our own small business category, but the entries in all the categories. It is an annual reminder of just how many success stories there are in the Yorkshire business community.
We firmly believe that, while winning an award is great, simply taking time to look at your business, consider the positives and celebrate them is worthy exercise in itself. We would encourage any business to do that, and to enter these awards; every entrant has a real to chance to shine.
Judging these awards is a difficult task; it is not easy to choose winners when the quality is so high. But it's a responsibility we are happy to bear when we see those businesses represented on awards night. This year, we hope our job is more difficult than ever with more entries than ever before.
The Excellence in Business Awards night is surely the Oscars of Yorkshire Business; the celebrity, the glamour, and that's just the host! It is a night for us all to celebrate the powerhouse of industry, finance, innovation and education our region is.
